Looking forward to 2010
Adam Aptowitzer, December 17, 2009

Welcome to another edition of Charity Law Insights at Drache – Tax, Estates and Charity Law. Over the past year we have been involved in several major writing projects of Provincial and National importance which have detracted from the timeliness of our newsletters. That said, we are happy to make available to you some of the projects. The first was a study on the impact of the imminent adoption of the HST and the abandonment of the PST in Ontario (that study is available here). The second was a major paper written by Adam Aptowitzer and published by the CD Howe Institute on reforming the regulation of the charity sector in Canada. That paper is available here.

In addition, over the past year at Drache, Arthur Drache has continued to publish the Not for Profit News, co-write Charities, Taxation, Policy, and Practice and serve as chair of the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law in Washington D.C.. Adam Aptowitzer, in addition to the CD Howe paper above, has continued co-hosting the A to Z of Charity Law in Canada podcast (available on itunes), and has been active as a speaker to various conventions and groups. Perhaps our proudest achievement is that we continue to advise and help small and large, Canadian and international charities with an elite level of legal knowledge, ability and creativity.

As the year draws to a close, the lawyers at Drache are happy to make a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in honour of our clients and friends and wish everyone a healthy, happy and prosperous new year.
